To say the novel coronavirus has been a real spanner in the works so far would be an understatement. It doesn’t matter if you have the virus or not, your normal life has been altered. For those of us who don’t have the virus that alteration is manifested in the quarantine measures.
The sensible thing to do during this period is to stay indoors as much as possible to slow down the spread of the virus. That being said, staying at home can be a flat-out bore. What are you supposed to do with yourself throughout the day?
Well, exempting introverts, everyone is really feeling the strain of waking up to the same things every day. So, I have compiled a short list to help you switch things up while you work from home.
Watch tutorial videos on YouTube
YouTube is a bottomless stock of information, and among that pile are priceless tutorial videos. I learnt how to use AutoCAD and Excel simply by watching tutorial videos on YouTube. If you can apply yourself to it, there is really nothing you can’t learn.
So, what is that one thing you’ve always wanted to learn but never really had the time or opportunity for? Grab your phone and get on over to YouTube to search for tutorials right now!
I plan to take guitar playing tutorials myself. Just as soon as I can find a guitar, that is.
Yeah, I know you’ve heard this one a thousand times but that doesn’t make it any less important. You have no excuse now; you’ve got the time to burn so why not burn some fat along with it?
I find that it’s easier to do these things in a communal setting. So, you could download an exercise app on your phone; God knows there are a lot of them. You could also follow live workout accounts on social media for a more integrated experience.
Read a book…or write a book?
Another one you’ve heard a thousand times. I don’t really have much to say on this one that you haven’t heard before. A lot of people always say “I would like to start reading books more”; well, now you can. Again, you can’t really put the blame on time since you’re in quarantine, so check out Panacea‘s Library We got you!
Aspiring writers, now's your chance too. Finish that book! Start that script! Don’t grumble, just do it! Besides, our short story competition with the theme "Proudly African" is still on! Use this quarantine season to write a beautiful, unforgettable story!
Other ways you could take your mind off the boredom of quarantine include taking online courses (see edX) and participating in online hash tag challenges.
Stay active while at home. Stay safe.
