The Cheapskates Ideal Relationship – Romantic on a Budget

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The problem with the modern day relationship is that it can be expensive. So, what do you do if you’re just an honest-to-God cheapskate trying to be romantic, without breaking the bank? How do you show your partner your affection on a budget? Look no further, here are some excellent recommendations you can cheaply employ. (P.S: If you were wondering the recommendations are free of charge).

  • Write a poem

It might seem corny or even a little bit cliché, but sometimes it’s the little things that matter. Write down a couple of lines about how he/she makes you feel and give it to them. It’s a great way to show that you pay attention to what really matters.

You could also take up the haiku writing style. It is a very intricate style of writing poems that embodies emotional expression. It is a fine method of expressing love without splashing money around. You can surprise your partner with three line haikus at random times.

Here’s an example:

Lover of the light,

Smile a drop of golden sun,

On this heart of stone.

  • Spontaneous dates to improbable places

Nothing revitalizes a relationship more than spontaneity. Routine is the enemy of an exciting relationship. That being said, going out can be quite expensive as we all well know. So how do you do it on the cheap?

Easy! Buy…sorry, pick wildflowers and put them in a jar, pack a homemade meal (something light), grab some fruits and a bottle of wine and take your partner to the park. That wasn’t so hard now, was it? Picnics are such an underrated activity, and they’re cheap too. So, what are you waiting for?

Take time to find out the things your partner is passionate about, and try to recreate it in its cheapest form without making it tacky. You could also just not be cheap and splurge on the person you care about, but no judgment; do what suits you best, Mr. Scrooge.
